Welcome to
The Connotations Society for Critical Debate

The Connotations Society for Critical Debate is a Germany-based tax-exempt organization that wants to encourage scholarly communication in the field of English Literature (from the Middle English period to the present). The focus lies on the semantic and stylistic energy of the language of literature in a historical perspective and the aims is to represent different approaches.

In order to reach this aim and make the thoughts and ideas available to the public, The Connotations Society and Waxmann Verlag Münster / New York publish Connotations: A Journal for Critical Debate twice a year. The journal is indexed, for example, in the MLA Bibliography, the World Shakespeare Bibliography and the IBZ/IBR. The Connotations Society, founded in 1998, is formed by the private subscribers to the journal. The society makes possible the critical exchange promoted by Connotations. Regularly updated lists keep members informed of their colleagues' research interests.

If you are interested in receiving Connotations regularly or in taking part in the next symposium, please write to editors@connotations.de, or by mail to: Connotations Society, c/o Professor Matthias Bauer, Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen, Department of English, Wilhelmstr. 50, 72074 Tübingen, Germany. The suggested annual membership fee is 40 €/60 $, reduced rate (e.g. for students) 20 €/30 $.
